Overview:
The CMO of Rare Disease will be responsible for developing and nurturing external relationships, providing educational outreach on our genetic testing products, and serving as a key ambassador for our organization in the medical and scientific community. This role requires significant travel (50-60%) to engage with healthcare providers, researchers, and key stakeholders worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
- External Relations and Partnerships:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, clinical researchers, rare disease advocacy groups, managed care professionals, and other industry experts.
- Serve as a liaison between the company and external healthcare institutions, facilitating collaboration opportunities and partnerships.
- Represent the company at medical conferences, scientific meetings, and external events to strengthen the company’s presence in the rare disease space.
- Establish and maintain relationships with state and government officials overseeing Medicaid programs.
- Educational Outreach:
- Develop and deliver educational programs for healthcare professionals to increase awareness and understanding of the company’s genetic testing products and services.
- Provide expert insights and training on the use of genetic testing for rare disease diagnosis, management, and personalized treatment options.
- Organize and participate in webinars, workshops, and roundtable discussions to share knowledge on advances in genetics and the role of genetic testing in rare disease management.
- Offer direct consultation to healthcare providers regarding the interpretation of genetic test results.
- Clinical and Medical Leadership:
- Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure that genetic testing solutions align with the latest medical and scientific advancements, particularly in rare diseases.
- Act as a medical resource for internal teams, guiding clinical validation, regulatory requirements, and best practices in genetic testing.
- Support the Chief Medical Officer in advancing the company's medical strategy and ensuring that products meet high clinical standards.
- Specialty Clinic Involvement:
- Attend a genetics or other relevant clinic and see patients at least once per month to ensure maintenance of clinical skills and continued insight into daily medical practice
- Travel and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Travel up to 60% to meet with healthcare professionals, key opinion leaders, and other stakeholders to promote our genetic testing products and services.
- Attend and present at conferences, meetings, and symposia, ensuring the company’s products and innovations are well-represented.
Qualifications:
- Medical Degree (MD, DO, or Equivalent) with board certification in a relevant specialty (e.g., genetics, pediatrics, internal medicine) that utilizes genetic testing for rare disease
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the healthcare or biotechnology industry, including significant exposure to genetic testing, clinical research, and rare disease management.
- Proven track record of developing and managing external relationships with healthcare professionals, academic institutions, and industry partners.
- Strong presentation and communication skills with experience in educating and training healthcare professionals and key stakeholders.
- Ability to travel extensively (up to 60% of the time) to meet with stakeholders and represent the company at medical and scientific events.
- Strong understanding of genomic technologies, including next-generation sequencing (NGS), and their application in diagnosing and managing rare diseases.
- Self-motivated and results-driven, with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish trust and credibility with healthcare providers, researchers, and industry leaders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- In addition to an MD, a PhD in genetics, genomics, or a related field.
- Experience with regulatory affairs and familiarity with the clinical testing landscape for rare diseases.
