Job Summary: 

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)/Physician Assistant (PA) provides patient-centered quality health care within a community-based setting and strives to improve general health and well-being through prevention, education and treatment. Activities involve direct patient care, physical assessment, diagnosis and treatment, provision of preventive care, referral for specialty services as needed and follow-up. Will devote professional services to the benefit of BRMC and seek to incorporate all clinical activities into the practice of the BRMC. The Nurse Practitioner/PA and BRMC will negotiate any agreement for clinical practice outside of the BRMC, providing such practice does not interfere with provider's obligations to the Center. May be assigned to special projects such as primary care/mental health integration or to a satellite site. Demonstrates a sincere dedication and loyalty to the mission, vision and core values of BRMC.

Essential Job Duties & Functions:

  1. Provides medical services to patients of BRMC. Positions available at the BRMC facilities located in Colleen, Amherst and Appomattox Virginia. Providers may be required to work at one of the other locations within its service areas from time to time as agreed by BRMC and the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant.
  2. Maintains and updates medical records on BRMC patients timely.
  3. Consults with other clinical staff as necessary. Collaborates with attending physicians.
  4. Orders, performs and interprets all common tests as deemed necessary and appropriate based on history and physical exam.  
  5. Refers patients to other health care providers as indicated.
  6. Performs selected special procedures as approved by the Chief Medical Officer using annual competency form.
  7. Provides emergency care as needed to stabilize patients for transport to the closest emergency facility.
  8. Provides health education/counseling to patients and families.
  9. Assists with the teaching of nursing, nurse practitioner, and medical students.   
  10. Works together with practice team to care for patients, offering direction and education to the team to improve patient outcomes and team performance.
  11. Takes on other responsibilities and tasks as designated and agreed upon by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Chief Executive Officer.   

Qualifications 

  1. Master’s degree in the field of Science of Nursing/Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program and licensed in the state of Virginia.
  2. Must be board certified by a National Nursing Certification Board as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Must have active CPR certification
  3. Experience in an outpatient clinical setting, preferably a primary care practice, desired.
  4. Experience in chronic care management preferred.
  5. Excellent interpersonal communication skills and strong oral and written communication skills.
  6. Experience with information technology, electronic health records, culturally diverse populations and care of underserved populations.
  7. Bilingual in English/Spanish strongly preferred.

 

Working Conditions:

  1. This position is a FLSA Exempt position which may require work in excess of 40 hours per week. Work hours are Monday through Friday during variable hours of clinical operations which includes some Saturdays and on-call coverage to meet the Center’s needs and accomplish the duties of this position.
  2. Comply with and set example of compliance with BRMC’s policies/procedures/practices; comply with legal requirements for non-profit organizations.
  3. Perform and complete duties under stress and demands from different sources, and meeting strict deadlines.
  4. Tolerate prolonged computer related exposure.  Able to sit or stand at a workstation for long periods of time.
  5. May be exposed to hostile or emotional clients, family members, and staff, as well as disturbing or sensitive information
  6. May be exposed to infectious diseases and medical waste.
