Job Description

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics physician.  Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest.  Appointment rank to Associate of Pediatrics (non-tenure track) may also be considered.  The individual selected will join the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services. The Division is comprised of nine faculty, and is a national leader in research, with three successful NIH-funded investigators.  The Division works closely with the University of Iowa Center for Disabilities and Development, which has been Iowa’s University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) since 1972. The Center for Disabilities and Development integrates a broad array of clinical services in one location, including developmental and behavioral pediatrics, psychology, speech-language pathology, occupational and physical therapy, social work, education, audiology, and nursing, and thus provides an ideal environment for exceptional patient care, education and research. The Center is also the home of Iowa’s LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities) program, and has provided outstanding interdisciplinary training in neurodevelopmental disabilities for over two decades.

Requirements:
Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent
Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent 
Board certified or eligible in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, or equivalent
License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa

Desirable qualifications:
Clinical experience in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics
Experience in patient-oriented research
Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents
Evidence of scholarly activity
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 47 pediatric residents.

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2019-2020 University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in six pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including neonatology, orthopedics, diabetes and endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 190-bed children’s hospital opened in February 2017.
