Our team provides the full continuum of care for patients with complex cardiac, thoracic, and vascular conditions, in close collaboration with partners across critical care, cardiology, and anesthesiology.
We have particular expertise in:
- Complex aortic surgery, including open and hybrid approaches to thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections.
- Cardiogenic shock, with robust integration of temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support including extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
- Heart transplantation and advanced heart failure therapies.

About the Adult Intensivist Position
Dell Medical School is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Critical Care Physician to join the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery. The successful candidate will help shape a high-performing, multidisciplinary team delivering post-operative care to adult patients undergoing advanced cardiovascular and thoracic procedures.

Essential Functions:
- Deliver expert care to critically ill cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients in the CVSICU.
- Collaborate closely with surgical and critical care teams in a multidisciplinary, team-based model.
- Participate in bedside teaching, simulation, and didactics for medical students, residents, and advanced practice providers.
- Engage in research and scholarly activity (clinical, translational, health services, or basic science).
- Contribute to departmental governance, academic programming, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- MD or DO from an accredited institution.
- Board certified or eligible in critical care medicine (anesthesiology, internal medicine, or surgery-based pathway).
- Fellowship training completion in critical care medicine.
- Eligible for unrestricted Texas medical license prior to start date.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex cardiovascular ICU patients.
- Strong procedural skills and clinical judgment.
- Outstanding communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities.
- Commitment to academic excellence and clinical innovation.
- Able to foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and empathy in the ICU
- Eligible for academic appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor
