Academic Burn Surgeon
Burn Center Director
The Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSCEP) seeks a Burn Center Director to lead development of the burn program at University Medical Center of El Paso (UMC-EP). This would be a leadership role as the Surgery Department grows clinically and academically as a regional referral center for surgical disease. The successful candidate should enjoy teaching surgical critical care fellows, residents and medical students as well as pursuing research and other scholarly activities.
UMC-EP, as the only ACS-verified Level 1 trauma center for a 270-mile radius, annually admits approximately 3,900 trauma patients from a catchment area of 1.25M individuals in far west Texas and southern New Mexico. With the nearest ABA-verified burn center located 340 miles from El Paso, this is an excellent opportunity to establish a new program in an underserved region with respect to burn care.
The Health Sciences Center consists of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, the L. Frederick Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine. TTUHSCEP is one of five independent universities in the Texas Tech University System.
El Paso, as the 6th most populous city in Texas and the 22nd in the United States, has been ranked as the city with the lowest cost of living by Forbes magazine and one of the safest cities in the United States. Exceptional public schools and private schools are available. The city has minor league baseball and soccer, symphony, museums, excellent dining options and shopping. The El Paso International Airport is easy to access, making travel simple and efficient. One can enjoy living in the mountains and skiing is just two hours away.
The position requires a M.D. /D.O. degree, completion of an ACGME approved residency in general surgery as well as successful completion of a surgical critical care fellowship and burn fellowship. Board certification/eligibility in general surgery and surgical critical care is required. The candidate will be employed by TTUHSCEP at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications.
