Inaugural Program Director – Internal Medicine Residency Program

Position Highlights

  • Lead the development and launch of a new ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program.
  • Build a 10-resident-per-year training program with a strong emphasis on clinical. excellence, community engagement, and resident wellbeing.

  • Designed for a physician passionate about medical education, this role provides approximately 80% protected administrative and educational time to build, lead, and innovate a new residency program, complemented by 20% clinical practice to remain engaged in patient care and resident teaching.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Development & Accreditation

  • Lead all aspects of program development and ACGME accreditation.
  • Develop and maintain program policies, educational objectives, competency-based curriculum, and assessment systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ACGME, ABIM, institutional, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in institutional GME committees and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Prepare for and oversee accreditation site visits and ongoing program evaluation.

Educational Leadership

  • Design and implement a rigorous and innovative Internal Medicine curriculum.
  • Foster a culture of inquiry, professionalism, accountability, and lifelong learning.
  • Develop clinical rotations and educational experiences across inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Promote scholarly activity among faculty and residents.
  • Support resident mentorship, coaching, career development, and wellness initiatives.

Faculty & Clinical Leadership

  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-quality teaching faculty.
  • Provide faculty development focused on teaching, feedback, evaluation, and mentorship.
  • Collaborate with hospital leaders, specialists, and ambulatory practices to ensure. outstanding clinical training experiences.
  • Maintain an active clinical practice consistent with program needs and specialty expertise.

Resident Recruitment & Culture

  • Lead resident recruitment, selection, and onboarding efforts
  • Create an inclusive and supportive educational environment
  • Establish a resident culture emphasizing teamwork, service, compassion, and clinical excellence
  • Promote resident leadership and engagement within the health system and community

 Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Minimum of three years of educational and/or administrative experience within an ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency program.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Indiana.
  • Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, teaching, mentorship, and leadership.
  • Strong understanding of ACGME accreditation standards and competency-based medical education.
  • Experience in curriculum development, faculty development, and program administration preferred.
  • Prior leadership experience as Associate Program Director, Core Faculty, Clerkship Director, or Program Director strongly preferred.
