Assistant Professor of Medical Psychology (in Psychiatry)

The Department of Psychiatry is seeking a psychologist to join the Gender and Sexuality Program in the Faculty Practice Organization at CUIMC. The Columbia Gender and Sexuality Program is comprised of a diverse and multidisciplinary team of experts devoted to serving the needs of transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive children, adolescents, adults, and family members. Additionally, our program serves the needs of the LGB community.

This is a full time, clinical position that will involve seeing children, adolescents/adults, and their families. As the position will include direct clinical care, candidates should have demonstrated interest and expertise in working with sexual and gender minorities, including children, adolescents, and families. The Columbia Gender and Sexuality Program works closely with the Program for the Study of LGBTQ+ Health, allowing for several opportunities for scholarship and research collaboration. Candidates with experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy are especially encouraged to apply. Applicants should have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well across disciplines and function within a multi-disciplinary team.

The CUIMC FPO sees a mix of private pay and managed care patients and has a particular focus on serving the Columbia Irving Medical Center community, among others. We prioritize evidence-based interventions and have an array of specialized programs to best serve our patients. All positions currently allow for hybrid work, with on-site time spent in our Columbus Circle offices in Midtown Manhattan or on the medical campus in Washington Heights. Our faculty serves as part of multi-disciplinary teams with ample opportunities to learn from and consult with colleagues. 1. Candidate(s) will conduct comprehensive intake evaluations of gender diverse individuals using a model of gender affirmation; candidate will also have skill in evaluating psychiatric disorders and psychological distress.
2. Candidate(s) will provide group and individual psychotherapy.
3. Candidate(s) will work closely with a multidisciplinary clinical team, including other psychologists/social workers, psychiatrists, and psychiatric nurse practitioners.
4. Candidate(s) will have opportunities to attend case conferences, peer supervision and Grand Rounds at CUIMC. Opportunities may exist for clinical supervision and teaching.

Minimum Educational Requirements:

• PsyD or PhD in Clinical Psychology
• New York State license required.
• Candidates will be required to obtain a New Jersey license
• Graduation from an APA-accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology, and completion of an APA-accredited pre doctoral internship program.
