Salary: $336,800 – $505,200 annually
Position Overview
A leading integrated behavioral healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide strategic clinical leadership across a comprehensive continuum of behavioral health services. This executive role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric and medical care while advancing clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and organizational growth.
The Chief Medical Officer serves as a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering with operational leaders to develop innovative programs, strengthen clinical quality, support physician and provider engagement, and improve outcomes for individuals and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive medical leadership for behavioral health and integrated healthcare services.
- Oversee clinical quality, patient safety, and standards of psychiatric and medical care across multiple programs and service lines.
- Supervise, mentor, and support psychiatrists, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Develop and implement clinical policies, protocols, and evidence-based best practices.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead physician recruitment, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and succession planning.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning, service expansion, and organizational initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and clinical outcomes through continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Provide consultation regarding complex clinical cases and psychiatric services.
- Partner with quality, compliance, and operational leaders on utilization management, risk management, and performance improvement initiatives.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with hospitals, healthcare providers, community partners, and referral sources.
- Support the development of innovative behavioral health programs that address community needs while maintaining financial sustainability.
- Participate in organizational budgeting, resource planning, and long-range strategic initiatives.
- Represent the organization with community stakeholders, healthcare organizations, and professional associations.
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Board Certification in Psychiatry
- Eligible for or currently holding an unrestricted Washington State medical license
- Current DEA registration (or ability to obtain prior to employment)
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive physician leadership or executive medical leadership experience.
- Experience leading psychiatrists and multidisciplinary behavioral health teams.
- Strong background in community behavioral health, integrated healthcare, hospital psychiatry, or other complex behavioral healthcare environments.
- Demonstrated success in clinical operations, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and physician leadership.
- Experience collaborating with executive leadership on strategic planning and organizational growth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), community mental health centers, or integrated healthcare systems.
- Experience overseeing multiple clinical sites or regional operations.
- Strong knowledge of accreditation standards, quality improvement methodologies, and behavioral healthcare regulations.
