SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the Heroes of Healthcare podcast special edition. I'm your host Ted Wayne. My special guest today is Olivia DiAngelo-Reed. She's an influential thought leader with more than a decade of recruiting and staffing expertise across multiple industries. She currently serves on the board of NALTO, the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations. During college, Olivia co-hosted a morning radio show and fell in love with storytelling and interviewing guests, and currently co-hosts the Heroes of Healthcare podcast with me. Currently, she serves as divisional vice president at Jackson and Coaker, a Locum Tenens agency. It is my pleasure to welcome my special friend Olivia to the show. Olivia, let's jump right in. Help us understand what we should know about working Locum Tenens.

SPEAKER_00: I'm often asked what are the benefits of working Locum Tenens? And the truth is, those benefits have shifted over time. When Locom's first came into the market about 40 years ago, physicians were often found doing Locum Tenens at the beginning of their career or at the end of their career. At the beginning of their career, it was used as an opportunity to explore different practice settings, travel the country, and see what types of opportunities would best fit their needs. They would often use it at the end of their career after they want to retire but not fully step away from patient care. Now, a physician might work Locum Tenens throughout their entire career. Contrary to popular belief, Locum Tenens can be worked in addition to a permanent full-time position. We often have physicians who might pick up Locom Tenon shifts while they're on PTO. Or if they have a one week on, one week off schedule, they'll use their off weeks to go and help patients in other parts of the country or even in their own community. Another overwhelming benefit of working at Locum Tenens is that you are able to take your time into your own hands and focus on what matters most to the patients. As a Locum Tenens physician, you are able to spend 100% of your time focusing on the patients without any of the intricacies that go with billing and paperwork that often happen when you're in a full-time permanent role at a hospital. So, how do you choose what Locom Tenons agency to work with? First and foremost, we would recommend partnering with an agency that is a part of the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations. As an agency who is part of NALTO, they have agreed to abide by a certain code of ethics that keep you the physician safe. If you're working with a NALTO agency, you can rest assured that your information is being kept private. And any opportunities you've been presented to, you've given your recruiter permission to do so. How many agencies should you work with? Well, that's up to you, but we would recommend at least two. The reason being, many hospitals work with different agencies. If you work solely with one agency, your opportunities might be limited to what that agency has access to. If you work with multiple agencies, you are able to have access to multiple positions across the country and with various hospitals. So, in sum, the benefits of working Locum Tenens are really up to you. There are an array of benefits and it's really choosing the best opportunity that fits your needs. Why work with an agency? Well, when you work with an agency, not only do you have access to these opportunities, you also have someone who is there to be your agent and ensure that all opportunities presented are in your best interest. And lastly, how do you choose what firm you want to work with? Well, again, first go to www.nauto.org to see the agencies that are part of the National Association of Locum Tenens Organizations. From there, you can see a list of agencies who partner with Naruto and decide which agency will best partner with you. Lastly, if you have any additional questions, I'm here. Feel free to call me. My name is Olivia and I can be reached at 1-800-272-2707.
