Job Description

  • General Anes or Cardiac-Trained
  • No weekday call! Only 6 Weekends/Year of Primary Call!
  • Join 2 MDs, 6 CRNAs!

About the Opportunity:

Our Client is seeking to add a new full-time Anesthesiologist to their cardiac and general surgery team. The anesthesia team is currently comprised of 6 CRNA’s and 2 Anesthesiologists for a total of 8 anesthesia providers. They are looking to add another anesthesiologist due to the growing volumes of cardiac cases from the growing interventional, structural heart and EP team, and also because they had an Anesthesiologist that left. Ideally, they would like to grow the Anesthesia team to a total of 12 providers. They have four ultrasound machines in the department that are used frequently by the team for lines and blocks. The team also supports the rotation of two SRNA (student CRNA’s) programs from two different schools, which would provide a teaching component with the SRNA’s in the room during cases. The team is also open to training a new anesthesiologist, if there are areas, they need help to become more proficient in. The anesthesiologists do all the cardiac, open hearts, TAVR, Watchman, and EP cases. They rotate who is first out and second out, so the work is divided evenly. They will still do general cases when cardiac volumes are down or when a CRNA is off post call. For their current cardiac volumes, they do between 60-80 open hearts, 50-70 TAVR’s and Watchman, and 200-250 EP’s a year. A typical day starts around 6:45AM and ends 2:00-4:00pm. So in a typical week they will average 1-2 hearts at the beginning of the week and then do general cases the rest of the week. This is an autonomous position for the CRNA’s as they do their own general bread and butter anesthesia procedures (OB, GYN, ORTHO, ENT, and Gen Surgery) without MD supervision. None of the CRNA’s do hearts. Busy bread and butter days would be 35 cases in Ortho, OB, and Endo handled mostly by the CRNA’s unless an Anesthesiologist helps because they are short a CRNA that is off post call. Total anesthesia cases per year are about 7000 overall. The anesthesiologists do not take weekday call. If they would like to cover the ICU then they would take one weekend a month primary and ICU secondary on the same weekend. If not interested in covering the ICU the call would be primary call 1 weekend a month and the next month they would be on secondary call. So only 6 weekends a year of primary call!
