PRIMARY PURPOSE: The primary purpose of this position is to assess and evaluate the needs of the patients and implement a course of action in an integrated care model within a public health setting. This position provides medical services to patients through Rural Primary Care, Behavior Health Integration, Child Health, Maternal Health, and Family Planning programs within the agency. The physician-I will work with other disciplines on staff to obtain medical histories, perform physical examinations, obtain, and perform appropriate diagnostic procedures, prescribe treatment, document findings, develop care plans and counsel patients in a clinical team environment. The employee must have a complete understanding of the patient care protocols and medical guidelines used in the work area, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the work. Guidelines include the medical protocol approved by agency policies and procedures, reference manuals, and program guidelines and standards. This position requires an interest in the treatment of opioid use disorder, completion of DATA 2000 Waiver Training and DEA registration for prescription of buprenorphine products preferred.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: A thorough knowledge of theory, Principles, and practices of general and preventive medicine, as related to public health. Considerable knowledge of recent developments in the field of public health and ability to apply improved techniques and procedure in the specialties to which assigned. A preferred candidate should have considerable knowledge of public health laws, regulations, and policies, and the ability to interpret them to others.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina, approved by the North Carolina Medical Board.
