Job Description

Interventional physiatry practice opportunity, Georgia

  • Well-established, 25-year-old orthopedic practice with an outstanding reputation
  • Great opportunity – Walk into a ready-made practice with a strong community referral base; plenty of patients
  • No micromanagement; collegial work environment
  • The ortho practice is open to learn from you about the optimal ways to develop their practice
  • Little to no managed care; higher payments than (Login for Information) or FL for instance
  • Easy place to live albeit rural but these days everything is nearby be it on the internet, airplanes, etc.

Location:

  • Southwestern GA, near the FL border
  • 77,500 city population; 200,000 service area population
  • 151 miles south of Atlanta, 88 miles north of (Login for Information), (Login for Information)
  • Underserved area; patients come from as far as an hour away
  • Little traffic, beaches within 3 hours
  • Lower cost of housing than in a major city

On-site, recently-designed, Joint Commission Accredited Ambulatory Surgery Center

  • Work with four Board Certified orthopaedic surgeons (currently looking for a fifth)
  • Patients seen with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions of spine and extremities including degenerative, traumatic, congenital, and less often infectious and neoplastic.  Treatment techniques include open and minimally invasive.  Ortho surgeon in office at all times to answer any questions.
  • Offers care for sports injuries, hand and upper extremity problems, total joint replacement, foot/ankle, and spinal problems, with both non-surgical and surgical treatment options
  • Vertically integrated with On-site MRI, PT and orthotics and prosthetics as well as a pharmacy and urgicare clinic
  • Clinic and procedure days.  Procedures done in an ASC
  • Average about 120 cases/month; the previous physiatrist chose to do procedures 1 day per week with busy schedule that day; the number of days you do procedures is up to you
  • See about 25 patients/day
  • Will work closely with one (or possibly two) spinal surgeons (they have another spine doc hopefully joining them in the fall).
  • Work with an EMR system; they use Allscripts
  • No call, no weekends
  • Procedures are done at their surgery center and they are willing to make arrangements also for an injection room for in office injections.
  • Ultrasound machine available
  • Friday’s are usually half days
  • Medical pain management, including opioids without procedures:  approximately 10-20% (since practice is in a relatively small town, there is no medical only pain management option to whom to refer patients who need only refills).
  • Patients getting opioids and occasional procedures:  approximately 80%.  These figures are estimates.
  • The previous physiatrist did urine drug screens at regular intervals, and patients who fail the UDS can still be treated, but without narcotics.
  • Every patient is monitored with GA Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, which helps to flag any patients with high-risk pharmacy behavior.
  • Employee, partnership not possible for this type of group by GA law; the positive is that you can leave the practice at any time without debt; that being said, there is additional incentive for the practice to keep you happy so you want to stay

Salary

  • Plus productivity bonus
  • The previous physiatrist earned approximately $400,000 and worked 4 days/week

Benefits:

  • 2-3 weeks’ vacation, health, dental, CME, relocation, malpractice and more
