The (Login for Information) (BARC) has been serving Broward County residents since 1973 and, with strong support from the Board of County Commissioners and the community, continues to expand services to meet the needs of adults affected by substance use and co-occurring disorders. In 2018, BARC opened its flagship “BARC Central,” a 48,900 sq. ft. LEED Gold Certified facility offering inpatient detoxification and withdrawal management, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), and Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP). BARC provides a full continuum of care—including detoxification, residential, outpatient, intensive outpatient, and case management services—supported by a multidisciplinary team of medical, clinical, and support staff. Accredited by the Joint Commission and licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families, BARC is recognized nationally for its innovative programs and award-winning facility.
General Description
Assists with the coordination, oversight, and provision of medical procedures and health care services.
Works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires graduation from an accredited school of medicine and successful completion of an approved residency appropriate to the area of assignment.
Requires one (1) year as a medical practitioner, which may include residency and/or fellowship terms, with at least six (6) months of experience with psychiatric, substance abuse, and/or co-occurring clients.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Licensed as a Physician to practice medicine in the State of Florida as provided for in Chapters 458 and 459 of the Florida Statutes.
Must possess and maintain DEA license to prescribe Buprenorphine and schedule III, IV or V narcotic medications.
Special Requirements
May be required to work nights/weekends/holidays.
SCOPE OF WORK
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Provides medical care and clinical services to residents of Broward County who need assistance with substance treatment, which may include co-occurring disorders.
Provides prompt and timely care to participants in the detoxification and residential treatment centers to reduce risks of adverse outcome.
Provides on call and after hours service to ensure safety continuity of care and emergencies for the citizens of Broward County.
Provides total patient care needs from psychiatric to nutritional and general medical needs.
Provides in service and various educational services for staff; provides consultation to programs.
Analyzes data of residential and detox to develop policies and procedures to impact the rates; reviews program overviews and policy and procedures for pharmacy services, pharmacy, infection control, and committees; reviews policies and procedures pertaining to nursing staff.
Provides medical consultation for the Broward County Human Services Department as a whole.
Provides support regarding cost management, utilization, quality assurance, medical protocol, supervision of staff and all other administrative tasks.
Acts as the back up to the Medical Director.
Performs related work as assigned.
