Job description:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight and implementation of nursing care in accordance with established policies and medical protocols. They assume responsibility for managerial oversight of nursing staff, scheduling and nursing operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements nursing care in accordance with established policies and medical protocols.
- Supervises nursing staff to include RNs and LPNs
- Supervises medication management and pharmacy processes including storage, security, ordering and destruction of medication, as applicable.
- Develops schedule to ensure appropriate staff coverage at all times.
- Provides on-call coverage as needed.
- Monitors and reports vital signs, withdrawal symptoms and medication administration, and documents progress in the patients chart on a daily basis
- Completes admission assessment, screens, nursing assessments, histories and other documentation as required by established policy.
- Communicates the results of admission assessments to the physician to ensure appropriateness of client admission and treatment
- Develops and implements individualized treatment plans, including monitoring activities to stabilize and manage withdrawals
- Monitors patients comfort level and provides appropriate care to assist client throughout the detoxification process.
- Assists the Physician/ARNP/PA as needed during medical exams and evaluations.
- Effectively communicates concerns about patient health to the Medical staff and follows up as necessary.
- Assists in educating patients about health problems and medical care.
- Facilitates medication education for new patients and for all other patients starting new medications
- Coordinates with program clinical team as necessary to provide information about patient medical problems
- Documents verbal orders from Medical staff as appropriate
- Observes and administers medications as appropriate
- Conducts waived testing, as needed
Qualifications/Experience:
- Graduated from accredited college with a degree in nursing
- Active RN license in Georgia
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a chemical dependency/psychiatric setting. At least 1 year of experience with detoxification preferred.
- Experience working with insurance companies, prior authorizations, or medical documentation processes highly desirable.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of healthcare workflows, medication management processes, and insurance authorization systems.
- Ability to manage multiple administrative and clinical coordination tasks while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail, particularly related to medical documentation and insurance forms.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, providers, pharmacies, employers, and insurance carriers.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, and adherence to confidentiality and HIPAA standards.
- Proficiency with electronic health record systems and medical office software.
- Ability to problem-solve and proactively address barriers to patient care.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach when assisting individuals receiving behavioral health and substance use treatment.
- Understanding of outpatient detoxification and substance use treatment environments.
