Job Description

  • Full-Time |On-Site
  • 12-hour shifts (may extend up to 14 hours depending on acuity)
  • Coverage includes Monday–Sunday rotation. Dayshifts

Position Overview

Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) is the Department of Defense’s only Level I Trauma Center and the U.S. Army’s premier medical institution. We are seeking full-time Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) to join the Trauma & Critical Care Service, providing inpatient and ICU-based care for trauma patients.

Providers are assigned to the Trauma ICU and trauma inpatient services, with responsibility for trauma patients from admission through hospitalization.


Clinical Focus

  • Trauma ICU

  • Trauma inpatient/ward service

  • Surgical critical care

  • Post-resuscitation and ongoing trauma management

Providers respond to trauma activations when patients arrive, but do not staff or cover the Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage critically ill trauma patients in the ICU and inpatient trauma units

  • Perform comprehensive assessments, daily rounds, and ongoing clinical management

  • Respond to trauma activations and assist with initial resuscitation, then assume inpatient care

  • Order, interpret, and document labs, imaging, and diagnostic studies

  • Perform procedures within scope of practice and granted privileges

  • Collaborate closely with trauma surgeons, intensivists, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Participate in care planning, discharge coordination, and continuity of care

  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with DoD and facility standards

  • Support trauma program initiatives, quality improvement, and patient safety efforts

Requirements

  • Active NP or PA license in any U.S. state

  • Graduate of an accredited NP or PA program

  • Must have a minimum of 1 Year of experience in Intensive Care/Critical Care

  • Board Certification

  • U.S. citizenship required
