Emergency Medicine Physician – Columbia VA Health Care System, Columbia, SC

About This Opportunity

JR Enterprise LLC (JRE), in partnership with the Veterans Affairs Healthcare System, is seeking Board Certified or Board Eligible Emergency Medicine Physicians to provide comprehensive, high-quality emergency care to Veterans at the Columbia VA Health Care System in Columbia, South Carolina.

 

This long-term contract offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working in a structured, mission-driven VA environment alongside a collaborative interdisciplinary team. Physicians will manage a broad spectrum of emergent medical, surgical, psychiatric, and traumatic conditions while supporting timely, compassionate care for those who served our nation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting to the Emergency Department
  • Provide emergent stabilization and management of life- and limb-threatening conditions
  • Perform minor and major emergency procedures, including:
    • Airway management and endotracheal intubation
    • Central and arterial line placement
    • Chest tube insertion and needle thoracostomy
    • Procedural sedation and analgesia
    • Cardioversion and defibrillation
    • Laceration repair, fracture reduction, splinting, and wound care
  • Review and approve inpatient admissions initiated by Advanced Practice Providers
  • Coordinate stabilization and transfer of patients requiring higher levels of care
  • Communicate test results and treatment plans to patients and consulting services
  • Apply and supervise orthopedic devices such as splints and braces
  • Initiate social work referrals for homeless Veterans or frequent ED utilizers
  • Provide discharge education and follow-up instructions
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, peer review, and staff meetings
  • Supervise and educate health professions trainees as required
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the VA Electronic Health Record (CPRS/EHR) and EDIS
  • Follow all VA policies related to patient safety, infection control, and privacy

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
  • Active, full, and unrestricted U.S. medical license (any state or territory)
  • Current DEA registration
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • BLS and ACLS certification (American Heart Association preferred)
  • Completion of VA credentialing, privileging, and mandatory annual trainings
  • Strong clinical judgment, procedural competency, and communication skills
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and federal holidays
