Leadership & Strategy
The Director will strengthen the division’s national visibility while advancing programmatic growth across all missions
Clinical Operations
Provide oversight of outpatient clinics & inpatient consultation services across UT Physicians, Harris Health, & Memorial Hermann
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Foster & expand multidisciplinary collaborations across UTHealth Houston & affiliated health systems
Faculty & Fellowship Development
Recruit, mentor, & support the career development of faculty & fellows while fostering a strong academic environment
Research
Expand the research portfolio (clinical, translational, & basic science) within the division
Education
Support & expand division’s role in medical student, resident, & fellow education
Administrative & Financial Oversight
Partner with departmental leadership to oversee divisional finances, budgeting, & resource allocation while supporting the long-term sustainability & growth
Additional Accountabilities
-Developing & sustaining an environment in the patient care units that supports excellence & innovation in clinical practice & patient care through assessing, planning, implementing, & evaluating programs & standards that support positive patient care outcomes, including excellent risk-adjusted outcomes
-Performing a variety of staff management functions, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, counseling, & terminating assigned management, clinical, & support staff
-Facilitating, reviewing, & approving the budget for UTHealth Houston & Surgery Services, including estimates of future personnel & equipment needs; ensuring that hospital resources are optimally utilized through participation in strategic planning & financial budgeting processes, & development of practices that achieve specific objectives & resolution of unfavorable performance variances; providing leadership & implementing strategies to provide cost-effective quality care
-Providing coaching, mentoring, support, & consultation to clinical managers, attending physicians, research personnel, colleagues, & clinical staff
-Serving as a role model in professional behavior & leadership skills, problem-solving ability, & interpersonal skills
-Delegating authority & accountability to clinical & nursing staff for clinical practice & patient care decisions that are consistent with professional standards, regulatory agencies, & organizational policies & procedures
-Identifying patient & family needs of the populations served; recommending &/or developing new programs & services to meet those needs; assuring that age-specific equipment, supplies, & educational resources are available for assigned units/services
-Collaborating with UTHealth Houston & hospital administration & physicians to identify future opportunities & define the direction of department services, developing & implementing plans to achieve identified goals, including OR efficiency, productivity, & patient throughput targets across the care continuum
-Maintaining an ongoing departmental Quality Improvement Plan & process consistent with the organizational Quality Management Plan; developing & implementing unit-specific standards, policies, & procedures that guide & support the provision of care & services; continuously assessing & improving assigned departments' performance while enhancing service
-Reviewing relevant financial reports & implementing modifications at UTHealth Houston & MHH to cut costs related to supplies, staffing, & service agreements, or identify viable alternatives for purchasing equipment & supplies
-Participating in &/or chairing committees, work groups, & meetings as appropriate
Qualifications
The selected candidate must have a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or equivalent & Texas Medical License or be eligible for a Texas Faculty Temporary License. Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicine is required
