Position Overview
(Login for Information), an independent community hospital, is seeking a Board-Certified Family Medicine physician to serve as Associate Program Director for our ACGME-accredited Family Medicine Residency Program. This role blends academic leadership with clinical practice in a supportive, mission-driven environment committed to training compassionate physicians for rural communities.
You will work closely with the Program Director, mentor residents, support curriculum and accreditation standards, and maintain a clinical presence within our hospital-owned outpatient practice, Sampson Medical Group.
Schedule & Structure

Full-time, hospital-employed

80% precepting/teaching/administrative • 20% clinical

1 day/week direct outpatient care

4 days/week resident teaching, supervision, and admin

1 week/month supervising inpatient family medicine service

Outpatient clinic + hospital-based teaching settings
-
Flexibility to live anywhere in NC, as long as travel doesn’t interfere with responsibilities

Associate Program Director Responsibilities
-
Mentor and support residents clinically and academically
-
Participate in curriculum development and ACGME compliance
-
Assist in resident recruitment and selection
-
Maintain program quality, accreditation, and strategic goals
-
Provide precepting, bedside teaching, and didactic instruction
-
Maintain an active clinical practice
Preferred Qualifications
-
Board certification in Family Medicine (ABFM or AOBFP)

Core faculty experience
-
Eligibility for NC medical staff privileges

Recent inpatient and outpatient experience
-
Comfortable with basic OB, joint injections, and dermatologic procedures
-
Knowledge of ACGME requirements

Academic or scholarly activity (research, publications, curriculum work)

Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills
-
Commitment to rural, community-focused training

We offer acute care, outpatient surgery, emergency and critical care, women’s and children’s services, and specialty care including General Surgery, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, and Urology.
