Gastroenterologist Locums Job | Alabama Facility Seeking Two Weeks per Month of GI Inpatient Coverage Starting January + Ongoing
Jackson and Coker's valued client in Alabama is seeking one GI to assist with inpatient rounding/call coverage starting this January 2026 and ongoing. This opportunity does not require advanced procedures, however, can use ERCP if you are skilled & interested in doing them while covering.
Coverage Need/Schedule:
- Seeking 1 week per month of coverage starting January 2026 & ongoing (open to your specific weeklong availability)
- Will work in the hospital 100% of the time & be on call for the ED
- Each weekday will be covering the floor/rounding, seeing new patients & scheduling any emergent procedures/scopes for afternoon block time
- Will do procedures/scopes in the afternoon (cases that have come through the ED and that you've scheduled that day and/or from the day prior)
- Must include 8 hours, Monday-Friday and 4 hours, Saturday-Sunday

- Active + Unrestricted AL Medical License & CSR required (open to IMLC candidates)
- Current Board Certification required
- Must have up to date case logs + references
- Schedule: 24-hour call coverage Monday at 7AM - Monday at 7AM & be expected to work between 8-10 hours per day in the hospital each day
- Will complete daily patient rounding, consults, follow ups in the mornings typically during the week & then do scheduled block time during the afternoon
- Facility has a clinic to refer patients to and 3 other staffed GIs at the facility (they will be covering the other 2 weeks each month)
- There is 24/7 anesthesia available for procedures (conscious sedation is not required)
- No GI APP support in the inpatient setting (this is being recruited for, however)
- Daily inpatient volume is between 4-10 consults per day, this can vary
- Can anticipate doing between 4-7 scopes per afternoon (sometimes less, is based on what you schedule for the day while covering)
- ERCP can be used but is NOT required
- Level 3 trauma designation, 250+ bed facility
- Staff GI doctors will continue managing their own clinic and procedure patients, including taking calls and rounding.
