Job Description
Medical Director – Hospital Medicine - San Antonio, TX
University Health is seeking a board-certified Internal Medicine physician to serve as Medical Director of Hospital Medicine.
This physician leader will provide clinical, operational, and quality oversight for the hospitalist program while partnering with hospital administration to deliver high-quality inpatient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and oversight for hospitalists
- Lead recruitment, onboarding and scheduling
- Standardize care processes, rounding models, and handoffs
- Oversee quality, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives
- Collaborate with ancillary services and hospital leadership
- Manage staffing plans, productivity, and resource utilization
- Participate in policy development, governance, and compliance activities
Construction is well underway on two new full-service, state-of-the-art hospitals and two multi-specialty health centers by University Health—the largest expansion in our more than 100-year history. Opening beginning in late 2025, these new locations on the South Side, East Side, and far Northeast Side of San Antonio will deliver comprehensive health services to rapidly growing areas with limited access to specialty, inpatient, emergency, diagnostic, and surgical care.
