Job Description

Seeking Chief General Internal Medicine – Greater Los Angeles VAHCS / David Geffen School of Medicine-UCLA. The VA is mission-oriented and provides exceptional care for those who have served in our nation’s military.

The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (VAGLAHS), in collaboration with the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), is seeking a full-time, innovative, and experienced physician to serve as Chief of the General Internal Medicine Division. The division is part of the UCLA General Internal Medicine Division that has particular strengths in health services research and medical education. This leadership position offers a unique opportunity to oversee a robust, VA-based program of research, clinical care, and education within an academic environment that emphasizes excellence in health services research and medical education. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record of peer-reviewed, original research, academic commitment, and effective mentorship. Health services researchers are strongly encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will be expected to qualify for an academic appointment at the Associate or full Professor level at UCLA.

The Chief of General Internal Medicine will lead a team dedicated to advancing veteran focused research, patient-centered care, trainee education, and faculty development. Key responsibilities include overseeing the Section's research activity, clinical programs, mentoring faculty and trainees, and contributing to the teaching mission of the Division. The position offers extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with leading researchers, educators, and clinicians from both VAGLAHS and UCLA. Support for research program start-up is available. This position reports directly to the Chief of Medical Service and is located at the VA’s West Los Angeles campus. Accomplishments and leadership experience commensurate with a senior academic role and demonstrate a deep commitment to advancing the mission of academic internal medicine are preferred.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am-4:30pm

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine
  • Must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license from any state or US territory.
  • Must have completed residency in an accredited core specialty
  • Must be Board Certified in Internal Medicine
