A not-for-profit, single-hospital healthcare system in northeast Missouri is seeking an experienced, Board Certified Internal Medicine physician to serve as Program Director for a newly accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program. With residents beginning in 2027, this is a rare opportunity to build and lead a rural training program from the ground up while maintaining meaningful clinical practice. Position Highlights: Full-time Program Director role for new Internal Medicine Residency Program Residency program recently accredited; inaugural class begins 2027 Responsible for overall program leadership, administration, and academic oversight Key duties include: Resident recruitment, selection, supervision, and evaluation Curriculum development and educational programming Clinical teaching within patient care settings Promotion, remediation, and disciplinary oversight Development of a strong academic and learning environment across training sites Scholarly activity and engagement with ACGME requirements and reporting Accountable to Graduate Medical Education leadership and accreditation bodies Ongoing expectation for active clinical practice in Internal Medicine Opportunity to help shape a new physician workforce in a rural training environment Qualifications: MD or DO with Internal Medicine specialty training Board Certified in Internal Medicine (ABIM or AOBIM) Minimum of 3+ years of documented Graduate Medical Education experience Active medical licensure and hospital privileges (or eligibility) Strong clinical and interpersonal leadership skills Commitment to ongoing patient care alongside academic leadership Compensation andamp; Benefits: Base salary starting around $380K+ (negotiable based on experience) Sign-on bonus: $50K+ Student loan repayment up to $100K Relocation stipend: $10K Annual CME allowance: $5K Paid malpractice coverage Comprehensive benefits package including: Medical, dental, and vision coverage Retirement plan options Paid time off CME support and academic resources Additional incentives may include quality, productivity, and performance-based bonuses Location andamp; Lifestyle: Located in a scenic Mississippi River community in northeast Missouri, this area offers a unique blend of small-town charm, cultural heritage, and outdoor recreation.
