Neonatology Hospital Based job located in Louisiana

This opportunity is in a small level 3 NICU with an average daily census of 5-6 patients. Hospital averages approximately 800 deliveries/year. The neonatologist is expected to round in the NICU and the postpartum well-baby ward. No in-house call required. NICU is covered 24/7 by an experience group of neonatal nurse practitioners. Neonatologist needs to be available over the phone and be able to be back to the hospital within 30 minutes in case of emergencies.

Writing neonatal TPNs and mastering common NICU procedures such as intubations, LPs, and umbilical lines are a must. Soft skills such as flexibility, independent thinking and being a team player are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Daily rounds with NNP and charge RN
• Perform physical examinations and write H&Ps, progress notes and discharge summaries
• Intubations, placement of umbilical lines in infants
• Attend high-risk deliveries
• Perform pre-natal consults
• Interpret laboratory diagnostic tests and x-rays
• Determine and initiate appropriate treatment plans
• Prescribe medications and write neonatal TPNs
• Must be proficient in electronic medical records

Qualifications

• Graduate degree from an accredited MD school
• Neonatology medical fellowship
• Must be able to obtain a medical license to practice in the state of Louisiana
• Must be able to get hospital privileges and prescriptive rights
• Compassionate and personable are desirable
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and other medical staff
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations and leadership skills are a plus
