Description
The (Login for Information) Department of Pediatrics and Division of Neonatology invite applications for a Neonatology faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This position can be tenure-eligible (Clinical Educator Track) or tenure-ineligible (Clinical Faculty Track). The ideal candidate for this position is a board certified/board eligible Neonatologist with strong clinical skills and a career focused on education, quality improvement, or other academic pursuits.
The UVA NICU is a 64 bed level IV unit (with plans for expansion to 100 beds in 2028) with about 850 admissions per year. Approximately 30% of admissions are born at outside hospitals from across Virginia and the mid-Atlantic region and many have complex multisystem conditions. We care for pre-op cardiac patients (post-op care in the PICU) and perform ECMO within the NICU.
The UVA Neonatology faculty is comprised of 14 neonatologists with a broad range of academic interests including bench research, clinical research, quality improvement and education. Our Neonatology Fellowship program includes 9 fellows, also with a broad range of academic interests. We have a large and growing group of APPs in addition to residents and medical/NNP/PA students.
We have a telehealth program that complements our Neonatal Emergency Transport System (NETS) providing consultations and transports for sick infants, as well as an active NICU follow-up program, run by Developmental Pediatrics. Members of our Neonatology Division have a collaborative relationship with members of other Divisions in Pediatrics, with all subspecialties represented. We also have an excellent relationship with our obstetric and Maternal-Fetal Medicine colleagues. UVA has about 2500 deliveries per year, many of them high risk. We have a busy Fetal Care Center, an MFM fellowship training program, and ongoing discussions about establishing a Fetal Intervention Center.
UVA Health Children’s lives within UVA Health Medical Center, a world-class academic medical center and health system.
