Neurosciences Physician Assistant (PA) – Full-Time, Day Shift

Location: Dothan, Alabama

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Neurosciences Physician Assistant (PA) to join our multidisciplinary team at a leading hospital in Dothan, Alabama. This full-time, day shift position offers an exciting opportunity to provide comprehensive neurological care across inpatient and outpatient settings. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, and other healthcare professionals to manage a wide spectrum of neurological conditions, from acute injuries to chronic illnesses.

In this role, you will perform patient assessments, assist with diagnostic procedures, support various interventions, and contribute to emergency care, including ICU and neurosurgical support. You will also be involved in patient education, case management, and quality improvement initiatives. The position encompasses services such as neurocritical care, stroke management, neuroendovascular procedures, and palliative care, emphasizing clinical excellence, procedural proficiency, and collaborative teamwork to enhance patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct thorough patient evaluations, including history-taking, physical and neurological assessments, and vital signs.

- Assist in diagnosing neurological conditions through interpretation of imaging and diagnostic tests.

- Administer injections (e.g., botulinum toxin) and manage medications under physician supervision.

- Perform procedural interventions such as suturing, lumbar punctures, and ventilator management in ICU or PICU settings.

- Support acute pain management and airway management during emergencies.

- Document clinical encounters accurately within EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks), ensuring compliance with HIPAA.

- Participate in clinical research, data collection, and quality improvement projects aligned with hospital standards (e.g., NCQA).

- Engage in triage and acute care activities in emergency or urgent care settings.

- Collaborate on discharge planning, post-acute care, and home health services for complex neurological patients.

- Maintain proficiency in ICD and CPT coding for billing and documentation.

- Support hospital-based services including neurocritical care, stroke management, infectious neurology, and hospice & palliative care as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

- Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.

- Active NCCPA board certification.

- Valid Alabama PA license or ability to obtain licensure.

- Prior experience in Neurosurgery, Neurology, or related specialties is preferred.

- Proficiency in neurological assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and interpretation of imaging.

- Strong knowledge of neurophysiology, pharmacology, and critical care principles.

- Skilled in procedures such as lumbar punctures, suturing, IV therapy, airway management, and ventilator support (neonatal ventilator experience is a plus).

- Ability to manage acute pain and participate in complex patient care scenarios within Level I/II trauma and emergency settings.

- Exceptional patient care skills with compassionate communication across diverse populations, including pediatric, adult, geriatric, and hospice patients.

- Knowledge of infection control, aseptic techniques, and procedural safety protocols.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across inpatient, outpatient, and research environments.
