OB Hospitalist (Laborist) Opportunity in New Orleans, LA

You’ll step into a high-volume OB service where your presence matters from triage through delivery and urgent consults. This is a full-time OB Hospitalist/Laborist role built for physicians who enjoy hands-on L&D coverage with strong backup and resources. If you’re looking for a schedule that’s concentrated into fewer shifts while staying clinically sharp, let’s talk.

Practice Overview

  • You’ll join an established OB hospitalist program providing 24/7 L&D coverage at a respected community hospital
  • Team support includes employed OB/GYNs, 4–5 laborists, midwives, APPs, experienced L&D RNs, and resident coverage in triage
  • Robust backup structure: an OB/GYN is on back-up call and a faculty member is always on call for added support
  • High-acuity capability with onsite MFM consults, Level III NICU, and advanced maternal level of care; complex OB kept in-house (VBACs, twins, accreta, ectopics)

Schedule

  • 24-hour shifts (7a–7a), typically 5–6 shifts per month
  • No back-to-back shifts; schedule built with flexibility within reason
  • Primary focus on OB coverage: unassigned patients, L&D floor coverage, and collaborative triage with residents/faculty
  • Call room provided (bed and workstation) to support a sustainable 24-hour model

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base pay: $302,400 for 6 shifts/month
  • Extra shifts: $4,200 per additional 24-hour shift; $2,100 per 12-hour shift
  • PTO option: 7 days/year, with ability to cash out (valued at $29,400)
  • Benefits include medical/dental/vision, life, short/long-term disability, 401(k), CME up to $2,500/year, and reimbursement for licensure/DEA/professional associations

Candidate Requirements

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in OB/GYN
  • Open to new grads; experienced physicians also welcomed
  • Comfort with L&D coverage and urgent decision-making; opportunity for emergent GYN cases if desired
  • Visa sponsorship available; AMG and IMG candidates considered

Community & Location Highlights

  • Live and work in New Orleans—iconic neighborhoods, renowned cuisine, and a year-round calendar of festivals and live music
  • Easy access to waterfront scenery and outdoor activities along the Mississippi River
  • Strong cultural amenities: historic architecture, museums, performing arts, and legendary dining
  • Major metro convenience with airport access and a wide range of housing options across the region
