Opening in 1892 as a 12-bed free-standing children’s hospital, The Children’s Hospital of Buffalo has grown to a 197 bed state-of-the-art facility located in downtown Buffalo, NY within the heart of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus. It is one of only 43 free-standing children’s hospitals in the US and the only in New York State. Our new hospital and outpatient center opened in November 2017 as Oishei Children’s Hospital across the street from the new Jacob’s School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo which opened the same year. Also connected is the Buffalo General Medical Center, Gate’s Vascular Institute, and UB Clinical Translational Research Center. In 2026, following a generous $50 Million gift from Mr. Tom Golisano, the name will change to Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and we will join the Golisano Children’s Alliance. GCHOB has a full complement of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists and serves as the leader of pediatric and maternal care across Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania.
