Job Description
East Tennessee State University’s Quillen College of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is seeking applicants for a full-time OB/GYN Hospitalist position at Johnson City Medical Center/Niswonger Children’s Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee. The Hospitalist will serve as a faculty-attending physician providing inpatient coverage for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. In this role, the physician will support the ETSU OB/GYN hospital service and contribute to the education and supervision of resident physicians and medical students from Quillen College of Medicine.
Clinical responsibilities include coverage of Labor and Delivery, the Emergency Department, inpatient consultations, OB/GYN admissions, and patient transfers. The Hospitalist will be present for resident-performed procedures during assigned shifts and will provide supervision of triage care to support appropriate billing and documentation of visits.
The position is structured as approximately two (2) 24-hour shifts per week (about eight shifts per month). Scheduling is flexible and developed collaboratively with the OB/GYN Hospitalist team and departmental faculty. Shifts include a mix of weekday, weekend, and holiday coverage, shared among faculty within the call rotation.
Physicians in this role contribute to the completion of medical records and billing documentation and participate in the ongoing education of learners through clinical teaching, bedside instruction, informal discussion, and didactic sessions. There are also opportunities to engage in clinical research, quality improvement, and other scholarly or performance improvement projects, particularly in collaboration with residents and students. Participation in departmental activities, hospital committees, and institutional service is welcomed as part of the broader academic mission.
The OB/GYN service at Niswonger Children’s Hospital supports approximately 1,400 deliveries annually, serving patients from ETSU clinics as well as referrals from across Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. These referrals reflect both obstetric and gynecologic expertise and access to comprehensive Neonatology and NICU services. Maternal Fetal Medicine consultation is available 24/7 to support patient care.

- Knowledge of general academic policies and curriculum issues
- Knowledge of Tennessee Board of Regents policies.Knowledge of accreditation policies where appropriate.

Required Qualifications
- MD or DO degree
- BC or BE in OB/GYN at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous OB/GYN experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience /interest in women’s health
