The Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSCEP) seeks a Breast Surgical Oncologist to be the medical director of the Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso Breast Care Center. The position is a full-time appointment and the salary is competitive.
The successful candidate will be employed by TTUHSCEP at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications. The candidate should enjoy teaching residents and medical students as well as pursuing research and other scholarly activities within the Surgery Department. The medical director will have an integral role in the $97 million comprehensive cancer center planned for the Medical Center of the Americas campus.
The Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso NAPBC accredited multi-disciplinary Breast Care Center had 3,662 patient visits in 2022 and 149 new cancers were identified. This was more than a third of all new breast cancers in the El Paso community. Additionally, the breast care center evaluates and treats a variety of benign breast conditions.
TTUHSCEP is one of five independent universities in the Texas Tech University System. The El Paso Health Sciences Center consists of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine.
El Paso is the 6th most populous city in Texas and the 22nd in the United States. The position requires a M.D./D.O. degree, completion of an ACGME approved residency in general surgery and successful completion of a breast surgical oncology fellowship as well as board certification/eligibility in general surgery.
