Board Certified Oncology Physician Services (1099)

Pay rate: $225.00 per hour (1099).

Location: Buffalo NY VA Medical Center 3495 Bailey Ave, Buffalo NY 14215 (Primary site); Batavia VAMC 222 Richmond Ave, Batavia NY, 14020; Olean CBOC 465 North Union Street, Olean NY 14760

Schedule: VA Business Hours: Normal administrative hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays. Clinic or OR Schedule: 40 Hours per week.

  • Off-hours Coverage: Shall be available on-call during all hours when the facility clinic is closed, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must always be available for phone consultations with VA residents and Physicians.
  • On-call providers must be available within 15 minutes by phone and on-site, within 60 minutes. If providers are presenting to Providence PVAMC for urgent call back, then they will be compensated with overtime rates and are responsible for reporting callback hours to timekeepers.
  • On-call schedule will be made in conjunction with VA staff Oncology Physicians.

Qualifications:

License: Physicians assigned to perform the services covered by this contract shall have a current license to practice medicine in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia when services are performed onsite on VA property. All licenses held by the key personnel shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Physicians who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered.

Board Certification: Shall be Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine Medical Oncology Board and be currently certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency. All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be always kept up to date.

Technical Proficiency: Shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently.

Direct Patient Care: Estimated 90% of the time involved in direct patient care. Shall be responsible for providing expert consultation and treatment to patients in an inpatient and outpatient clinic setting.

Clinic Care:  Shall provide clinical Oncology services. Shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic at the scheduled start time. Approximate clinical load is as follows: 5 hours of inpatient coverage per week; 26 hours of bookable clinical time per week; remaining duty time dedicated to clinical follow-up and other assigned tasks such as tumor board discussions. For bookable clinical time, approximate case load is 2 patients per hour.

Medications: Shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.

Discharge education: Shall provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all Oncology clinical patients.

Patient safety compliance and reporting:  Shall follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care. All events related to patient injury, medication errors, and other breeches of patient safety shall be documented in the medical record of those impacted and disclosed to the patient or surrogate.
