About the Clinician's WorkdayThis assignment runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with no call or weekend responsibilities. The role includes non-GYN cytology such as thyroid FNA, body fluid and CSF, urine cytology, lung and LN FNA, and rare salivary mass FNA. On average, 40 slides are screened daily by the pathologist without a cytotech, though there is no requirement to perform ROSE. Bone marrow procedures are rare, averaging 12 per week if competent, and peripheral smear reviews average about 2 per day. Duties also include supervising a PA and reading frozen sections (about 23 per week). There may be occasional coverage of a weekly multidisciplinary tumor board, where the provider presents pathology findings and answers questions. The work schedule will be based on the length of vacation coverage, but will most likely focus on frozen sections, cytology, and second reviews of surgical pathology cases.
