Job Description

(Login for Information) seeks a Director (Chief) for the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. Appointment rank may be at either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track at the Associate Professor or Professor level consistent with clinical experience and research interest. The Director (Chief) will lead the division’s clinical, educational and research missions as well as provide leadership and mentoring to our growing general pediatrics and adolescent medicine faculty. The Director will benefit from institutional resources and will have the opportunity to expand both the clinical and interdisciplinary research program.

Requirements:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Board certified in Pediatrics, or equivalent

5 or more years of experience practicing pediatrics

Candidates must be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Iowa

Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment

Desirable qualifications:

5 year or more of experience in an academic health system

Strength in teaching and scholarly pursuits

Ability to develop and implement clinical programs

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

History of extramural funding

It is highly desired that tenure track candidates have a demonstrated a history of extramural federal funding for their scholarly activities (i.e., NIH, DoD, PCORI)

The pediatrics department comprises the medical staff of University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Iowa’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital and home to the state’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians.  

For its 2024-25 edition of “Best Children’s Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked Stead Family Children's Hospital in nine pediatric specialties:  

Behavioral health 

Cancer 

Cardiology, heart, and vascular surgery 

Diabetes and endocrinology 

Neonatology 

Nephrology 

Neurology and neurosurgery 

Orthopedics 

Urology
