The Department of Psychiatry is staffed with 90 employed psychiatrists, several contracted psychiatrists, psychologists, advanced practice providers, and licensed clinical social workers who provide prevention, education, and treatment to all residents of Santa Clara County, regardless of ability to pay.

The Department of Psychiatry staffs a 24/7 psychiatric emergency room (EPS), a seven-day per week mental health urgent care clinic, where walk-in crisis intervention is available, two inpatient units at the hospital, adult and juvenile custody clinics, and several adult and child/adolescent mental health and substance treatment clinics at various geographically convenient locations in the county. Our Division of Consultation and Liaison (C&L) psychiatry provides inpatient psychiatric consults services to internal medicine, surgery, OB/GYN, peds, trauma, rehab, and the ED. We are a collegial work environment integrating acute psychiatric care with acute medical issues and work closely with multiple specialties.  We have ancillary support and an integrated electronic health record (EPIC).  There will be teaching to other trainees from other specialties. Our staff are ethnically diverse, and provide trauma informed, culturally appropriate services in many languages, reflective of the diversity of the population in Santa Clara County.
