Job Description

(Login for Information), a non-profit organization, has been widely recognized for its services as a provider of community-based behavioral health, intellectual disabled and homeless services in Eastern Pennsylvania and the state of Delaware. Each year, (Login for Information) provides a continuum of services at over 100 sites to over 4,5000 adults with psychiatric or developmental disabilities, drug and alcohol addictions, and/or homelessness. A pioneer in the field of community-based rehabilitation, (Login for Information) is widely recognized for its innovative approach to the delivery of services in a community setting.  Currently, we are seeking a full time Psychiatrist to work in our PEACE program.

  • Conducting psychiatric assessments including psychiatric history, course of illness, response to treatment, mental status examination, and diagnoses and present assessment results at daily team meetings and treatment planning meetings.
  • Supervising the treatment team in the comprehensive assessment of psychiatric history (e.g., onset, course and effect of illness, past treatment and response, and risk behaviors), mental status, and diagnosis; physical and dental health; use of drugs or alcohol; education and employment; social development and functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living situation, nutrition, money management); and family structure and relationships.

  • Collaborating with the registered nurses in assessment of client physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment.
  • Prescribing psychotropic medications and conduct regular assessments of therapeutic responses and side effects and educate clients regarding psychotropic medications. 
  • Performing individual, group and family supportive therapy and psychotherapy and illness education in the process of carrying out the tasks above.
  • Along with other team members, provide support, education, and counseling to family members of clients to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment process, and assist in their family member’s progress.

  • Providing on-site crisis assessment and management of patients during regular work hours, both on-site and over the phone, after hours, and as on-call backup to the first-line on-call staff.
  • Uses an electronic medical record (Credible software) - easy to learn
  • Provides services in the community (can travel alone and/ or with staff) about 30% of the time and on site and 70% off site. Direct support staff is required to go out when they are on call but not the psychiatrist
  • May get phone calls at hours other than 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. For example personnel from a Crisis Response Centers may call and want to talk with the doctor about someone who arrives at the emergency room for treatment.?

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Medical Doctor.
  • Possess valid PA state license to practice medicine.
  • Board certified or board eligible in psychiatry.
  • Skills and competence to establish supportive trusting relationships with persons with severe and persistent mental illnesses and respect for client rights and personal preferences in treatment are essential.
  • Clinical supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) model.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
